Antique Mahogany Montecristo Leather Cardholder
Although we live in a highly digitized world, a wallet is still an essential everyday item and the easiest way to carry cash and cards. And on those occasions when you don’t want to carry a full-sized bifold or coat wallet, or if you are a minimalist who prefers to travel as lightly as possible, you don’t need to sacrifice the convenience of your wallet. Fort Belvedere is proud to offer this elegant slim wallet card carrier for those moments when you only want the essentials.
First Quality Leather
The uncorrected full-grain leather used in this card carrier comes exclusively from English bulls.
Why does that matter?
When cows give birth, their hides become stretched, distorting the appearance of the leather. Bull hides have no such defects and preserve the natural, unadulterated appearance of the leather without the need for artificial correction.
Artisanal Italian Tannery
These hides were tanned and prepared by a heritage Italian tannery that has been in operation for over a century. In addition to its dedication to producing only the finest open-pored leathers in the grand tradition of Italian workmanship, this tannery is also devoted to sustainable harvesting, fair labor practices, and minimizing its negative environmental impact.
Supple & Firm Texture
Our Montecristo leather has been finished to offer a firm, supple hand and a subtle, tumbled texture. The visible open pores appear uniform at a distance, but up close, they present a complex pattern for unexpected visual interest. With no topcoat covering, you are able to experience the leather itself directly with every touch.
Becomes More Beautiful with Age
The antique mahogany Montecristo leather for this card carrier has been thinly waxed. As a result, scratches and knicks will appear prominently until they are lightly buffed out. Then, as the oils and waxes recollect, any minor damage will be subsumed into the base color, adding a unique tonal variation to the leather. As a result, with time and use, this card carrier will become its own work of art, a unique accessory that fully tells your story.
Warm Antique Mahogany Dye
This card carrier has been dyed a warm antique mahogany. Thanks to our aniline-dyeing process, the dye has been fully absorbed into the leather in a procedure that can take over 12 hours, ensuring a long-lasting color that won’t fade and will bring out the patina of the leather as the carrier ages. This color is a versatile option that is ideal for casual occasions but, thanks to its darker tone, can also be worn with more formal ensembles.
Incredible Color Depth
Thanks to our dyeing process and proprietary waxes and oils applied to the leather, this antique mahogany Montecristo leathers offers an unparalleled depth and “pull up” effect: when the leather is gently stretched, you can see the full range of colors and textures present within the leather.
Elegant Contrast Stitching
Our cream thread provides a subtle pop of color against the mahogany brown of this card carrier. Not only does this create visual interest, it highlights the piece’s incredible workmanship: every neat and fine back-and-forth stitch is on full display. The workmanship is even more impressive when you realize that the artisans can only see one side when they stitch those wallets, so it requires extra care and skill to sew these together.

Care
To nourish the leather and keep it supple and appearing its most fine, we suggest that every couple years you apply an unpigmented shoe polish or cream to its surface. Buff the polish or cream as you would your shoes.
Cleaning
If water is spilled on this leather accessory, remove all items from it, blot away (don’t rub) any excess liquid, and allow it to air-dry fully.
Please note that artificially drying leather goods, like with a hairdryer or heat gun, will degrade the leather.
If this leather accessory should become stained, clean it following the instructions on the dedicated leather cleaner of your choice.
If the stain persists, take the accessory to a dry cleaner that specializes in cleaning luxury leather goods.
The Finest Bovine Leather
Fort Belvedere proudly sources four unique varieties of treated leather, each with its own special qualities. These particular leathers are employed for most of our small leather goods, allowing you to easily match the leather accessories in your ensemble.
Americana, Dumont, and Montecristo Leather
Our Americana, Dumont, and Montecristo leathers were all tanned in Italy with hides exclusively taken from English bulls. Why bulls? Leather from cows that have calved can stretch and warp, altering the look. In contrast, bull leather is free from these imperfections, maintaining the pristine, authentic quality of the material without reliance on synthetic alterations.
These skins then underwent our tanning process at an Italian tannery steeped in heritage, boasting more than a hundred years of operation. This establishment is not only committed to crafting the highest quality open-pored leathers, following the esteemed Italian artisanal methods but also prioritizes sustainable sourcing, fair labor standards, and reducing its environmental footprint.
Togo Leather
The leather for our Togo line of wallets was sourced solely from young calves that graze in the elevated meadows of the Alpine region. Why is this significant? The Alpine climate is cooler, resulting in a reduced number of insects. A lower incidence of insects leads to fewer bites on the animals, which can otherwise damage the leather, causing imperfections. Additionally, while the hides of calves are more expensive than those of larger cows and bulls due to their size, the exceptional characteristics of calfskin—its resilience paired with softness—justify the cost.
These hides then underwent tanning and preparation at a historic German tannery with centuries of operation under its belt. This esteemed tannery is committed to crafting the most exquisite open-pored leathers, upholding the venerable legacy of German artisanry. In serving not only Fort Belvedere but also numerous elite and luxury fashion brands, it secures its reputation as a purveyor of premium leathers.
