How to Style This Pocket Square

Utilizing unique and interesting folds imparts greater versatility, as well as debonair elegance, to your pocket square. Ensuring that your folds appear natural and unaffected will not only look more charming and nonchalant, but it will also be evident to others that you are not wearing a cheap, pre-folded pocket square. This pocket square can be folded in three distinct ways. A fold that emphasizes the edge of the pocket square, like a banker’s fold, will highlight the linear border and its intricate paisley motif detailing. A fold that highlights the body of the pocket square, such as a puff fold, will put on full display the gorgeous and intricate central medallion and its many vibrant colors. Finally, a pocket square fold that encompasses both sections, such as an upside-down puff fold, will, of course, display both patterns.

The Perfect Blend of Silk and Wool

This pocket square is made from a blend of silk and wool, combining the color intensity and subtle shine of the former with the durability and structure of the latter. The result is a pocket square with an impeccable appearance that can be easily paired with many other fabrics.

It should be noted that printed silk-wool pocket squares are not as commonly found as silk pocket squares because it is difficult to create the perfect blend for the chest pocket. While most pocket squares are now printed in China on inkjet printers, Fort Belvedere silk-wool pocket squares are screen-printed by hand in England before being meticulously hand rolled.

Less shiny than pure silk examples, silk-wool pocket squares have a beautiful hand and drape to them that makes them especially compatible with casual sport coat combinations, as well as all kinds of tweed and country wear. However, you can also combine them with business suits in gray or blue for an understated, sophisticated look.

Unlike pure silk, linen, or cotton, this silk-wool blend is very springy, allowing it to easily retain its shape while resisting wrinkles. If you decide to switch from a puff fold to a crown fold, you will not need to worry about this pocket square acquiring unsightly wrinkles.

Care

Cleaning

Silk and blended silk neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.

Gently blot any excess stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.

Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.

Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration.

If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.

Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.

Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the tie laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.

If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the neckwear to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate garments.

Storage

To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.

Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.

Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.

To prevent wrinkles, store your silk neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.
