Decadently Plush Velvet Black Tie
Styled with prominent bows that are reminiscent of the wings of a butterfly, this bow tie has dimensions of approximately 4.75” by 2.5,” or 12 cm by 6.5 cm. Due to the thickness of the velvet employed in this bow tie, size up one-half size after measuring your neck.
The butterfly bow is a visually pleasing bow that is well-balanced to most face shapes and builds, and it is for this reason that the butterfly has become by far the most common black tie bow tie shape in contemporary menswear.
This velvet bow tie will pair elegantly with tuxedos that have a faille or grosgrain lapel, or dinner jackets that are made out of velvet. It also pairs well with white or off-white evening shirts, studs or traditional buttons, and either traditional waist covering, be it a formal vest or cummerbund.

Black Tie Etiquette
The black bow tie has famously given its name to the Black Tie Dress Code, but this accessory is also an essential requirement when wearing a tuxedo or dinner jacket ensemble. This neckwear will be appropriate for any formal evening dress code that includes the words “Black Tie.” Its timeless butterfly bow type will frame your face perfectly and ensure you make a memorable impact.
Do not forget the other accessories typical of Black Tie. For the most elegant appearance, it is important to match the facings of your tuxedo to your accessories like neckwear. Therefore, if your dinner jacket is made from velvet, you should have a bow tie in the same material. Be sure to select an appropriate waist covering, like a matching cummerbund, and consider a boutonniere as well: traditionally, gentlemen wore a rose or carnation with evening ensembles.
The Most Luxurious Velvet, Direct from Italy
Italian-made silk velvet is renowned for its luxurious texture and exceptional drape, as the Italian states have been producing quality velvet for centuries. The use of silk contributes to the velvet’s softness and shine, while the particular weave adds durability and a subtle depth to the colors.
Thanks to the meticulous production techniques employed by Italian artisans, our silk velvet boasts a rich pile that is both dense and evenly cut. This results in a smooth, plush feel that is inviting to the touch.
The quality of Italian-made silk velvet is apparent in every touch and in every glance at its gorgeous sheen. Despite its opulence, it remains a timeless choice due to its classic appeal and enduring sophistication.
Care
Cleaning
Silk and blended silk neckwear should not be washed immersed in water as doing so can ruin the texture and color of the silk. Instead, spot clean your neckwear using the following steps.
Gently blot any excess stain with a soft, dry cloth. Do not rub as this can damage the fabric.
Fill a small bowl with lukewarm water and add a few drops of mild detergent specifically designed for silk.
Dip a corner of a clean, white cloth into the solution and test it on a hidden area of the tie to ensure it doesn’t cause discoloration.
If the test is successful, lightly dab the stained area with the dampened cloth. Use a gentle tapping motion and do not saturate the silk.
Moisten another clean cloth with plain lukewarm water and gently dab the area to remove any soap residue.
Pat the cleaned area with a dry cloth to absorb moisture, then leave the tie laid flat on a towel to air dry completely.
If the stain does not respond to the these steps, take the neckwear to a professional dry cleaner experienced in handling delicate garments.
Storage
To prevent heavy creasing, never store your neckwear tied or knotted.
Undo the knot and then roll the necktie up in a firm but not excessively tight coil.
Allow it to sit in the coil for about a day to relax wrinkles.
To prevent wrinkles, store your silk neckwear hanging, flat, or in a very loose roll.
Sized for You
Your velvet Fort Belvedere formal evening bow tie is individually sized, ensuring that no clunky fastening system or adjustable slides mar the elegant appearance of your neckwear.
Please note that your shirt collar size MAY NOT necessarily match your bow tie size. It is critical that you actually measure to find the proper length.
To measure your neck, we recommend having help from a friend. Wearing your evening shirt, with a soft measuring tape, measure from the shank of the button to the outside of the buttonhole shirt collar to get the size of the shirt right. This measurement will correspond to your bow tie size.
Please Note: Due to the relative thickness of the material used in our silk velvet bow ties, always size up an additional one half size. For instance, if your neck measures 16”, please order a size 16.5.
